SEMA Middle East Business Development Conference
The United Arab Emirates (UAE) was the venue for the sixth annual SEMA Middle East Business Development Program in March. The 2017 event brought together pre-vetted trade buyers from 11 nations to meet with a delegation of 40 U.S. SEMA-member companies. The delegation included those returning for an additional SEMA Middle East program, such as aFe Power, Borla Performance Industries, COMP Cams and Injen Technology, as well as more than 23 manufacturers traveling to the Middle East with SEMA for the first time.
Make/model sales statistics are available free of charge to SEMA members to assist them in analyzing overseas markets and their product’s export potential.
In addition to the previously announced funding by the State of California, five more states have confirmed the availability of grants to qualified companies to participate in the SEMA Middle East Business Development Conference.
The State of California STEP program has confirmed that qualified California-based companies traveling with SEMA for the 2017 SEMA Middle East Business Development Conference are eligible for a $1,500 grant to help defray the costs to participate.

Nearly 40 SEMA-member companies traveled together to the United Arab Emirates (UAE) as part of the fifth SEMA Middle East Business Development Program. The companies included manufacturers of engine performance, suspension, interior and exterior products and those whose products are used for racing, street performance and off-roading as well as for classic cars, restoration and hot rods. The group was in the Middle East learning about the local specialty-equipment market firsthand, tazweed-style (Arabic for customization).
Participating in SEMA’s international trips has helped SEMA members open new markets and grow business in existing markets. But participants have also learned that preparation and follow-up are key to getting the most out of the investment.
There are only a few remaining slots left for exhibiting at the 2016 SEMA Middle East Business Development Conference, March 29–April 2, in Abu Dhabi, United Arab Emirates (UAE).
