REID LUNDE NAMED WINNER OF SEMA LAUNCH PAD

Reid Lunde, owner and founder of Kaizen Speed, was named winner of the seventh annual SEMA Launch Pad, presented by the Young Executives Network. Lunde pitched his invention in front of a packed audience at the Westgate Theater in Las Vegas and won over a panel of distinguished judges. His winning product has a solution for designing, installing and calibrating a complete performance package into a whole new experience.

SEMA SHOW EDUCATION EXPANDS TO THE SHOW FLOOR, REWARDS POWER USERS

The 2019 SEMA Show Education program includes more than 100 seminars designed to help business owners and industry professionals be more competitive and knowledgeable about how to succeed in the $45 billion automotive aftermarket. Back by popular demand are free professional headshots for all Showgoers and Power User cards that reward those attending three or more seminars. A new feature is the the SEMA Education STAGE, where Showgoers will be able to hear from leading experts without leaving the Show floor.

RPM ACT IS REINTRODUCED IN THE U.S. SENATE

SEMA President & CEO Chris Kersting today praised U.S. Senators Richard Burr (R-NC) and Joe Manchin (D-WV) along with 24 original cosponsors for reintroducing S. 2602, the Recognizing the Protection of Motorsports Act of 2019 (RPM Act).  This bipartisan bill protects Americans’ right to convert street vehicles into dedicated racecars and the motorsports parts industry’s right to sell products that enable racers to compete.  

SEMA SUES U.S. DEPARTMENT OF TRANSPORTATION FOR FAILING TO IMPLEMENT REPLICA CAR LAW

The Specialty Equipment Market Association (SEMA) filed a petition in federal appellate court to require the government to allow replica car manufacturers to immediately begin production. Under a 2015 law—the Fixing America’s Surface Transportation Act (FAST Act)—low volume automakers may sell up to 325 replica cars each year that resemble production vehicles manufactured at least 25 years ago. The FAST Act set a deadline of December 4, 2016, for the U.S. Department of Transportation’s National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) to issue any necessary regulations to implement the law. The agency has yet to take any action.

FINAL YOUNG GUNS CHALLENGER CHOSEN BY FANS FOR SIXTH ANNUAL SEMA BATTLE OF THE BUILDERS®

The Specialty Equipment Market Association (SEMA) today announced the winner of the Young Guns Fan Vote competition who will receive a prize package that includes an all-expenses-paid trip for two to the 2019 SEMA Show, transportation of the winner’s vehicle, a designated feature spot at the Show and entry into the Battle of the Builders competition. Chelsie Lesnoski of Penticton, BC, Canada and her 2013 Scion FR-S was chosen by her peers in a public fan vote competition that ran from Sept. 14 to Oct. 4, 2019.
