John Hotchkis, 2010 Board of Directors Nominee
I am honored to have been selected by SEMA as a candidate for the Board of Directors. We are in a pivotal time. The severe recession appears to be subsiding and opportunities are abound for open-minded, nimble companies. The rules for marketing and distribution have changed. Social media combined with Internet-based product information and distribution opens up completely new business avenues. I understand these new “rules of the road” and the importance of integrating the new with the established.
In 1992, I founded Hotchkis Performance to manufacture performance suspension systems. I continue to serve as president, responsible for overseeing design, engineering, manufacturing and marketing. I believe in the value of robust nationwide and international distribution systems, and early on, I signed up a fantastic group of warehouse distributors, jobbers and installers.
More recently, we have been on the forefront of using social-media marketing to forge meaningful bonds with consumers, improving sales and, importantly, creating a direct channel between the enthusiast and my team. I firmly believe that this type of communication will be essential for the aftermarket in years to come and look forward to helping fellow SEMA members accomplish similar objectives.
Following graduation from Art Center College of Design and a 10-year career in professional motorsports, I entered our industry in 1989 as marketing director for Guldstrand Engineering. Corvette guru Dick Guldstrand offered me a tremendous opportunity to learn the industry from the ground up.
I have been a member of Young Executives Network (YEN) and currently am part of the Street Performance Council (SPC) and SEMA Cares Committee, which are my focus. Away from the industry I am involved with numerous business and social clubs.
I also work to raise money for the UCLA Jonsson Cancer Center for Sarcoma Cancer research.
The SEMA Show, government/OE relations and vehicle/buyer data are just some of the member benefits I feel need constant attention. My enthusiasm for the industry continues unabated. After more than 20 years of immersion in the business of speed and entertainment, I am truly excited for the opportunity to help our industry prosper in these exciting, yet challenging times.
I encourage your vote and thank you for your support.
