    Automotive Restoration Market Organization (ARMO) - SEMA CouncilThe Automotive Restoration Market Organization (ARMO) has been hard at work behind the scenes over the past few months. Quite a few exciting changes are in store for the group, as the leadership has solicited feedback from members to determine the future focus and goals of the council.

    The council’s goal-setting process began more than a year ago when members met to discuss the group’s priorities at a general membership meeting during the 2013 SEMA Show. Taking attendees’ concerns into careful consideration, the select committee met again this past fall to discuss the question, “Who is ARMO?” The committee also took a survey designed to illuminate the strengths of the group

    Automotive Restoration Market Organization (ARMO) - SEMA CouncilEach year, manufacturer members of the Automotive Restoration Market Organization (ARMO) submit products to the Hot Product Showcase in order to gain exposure for their businesses. This year marked the 17th annual event at Spring Carlisle, one of the world’s largest gatherings of automotive restoration enthusiasts. The 2014 event was held April 23–26 and boasted more than 60 products from 24 ARMO-member companies.

    Automotive Restoration Market Organization (ARMO) - SEMA CouncilThe Automotive Restoration Market Organization (ARMO) will install new leadership following its most recent election cycle. Dennis Roberts, vice president of Distinctive Industries, will take over the chair position, and Erika Wiesman, the owner of Hydro-E-Lectric Inc., was selected as chair-elect. They laid out their backgrounds and plans in recent interviews with SEMA Member News.

    Roberts has been involved in the restoration industry for more than 30 years after having been introduced to musclecars in 1970 through a ’70 Trans Am owned by a friend of his older sister. He bought a ’67 GTO as his first car in 1974 at the height of the gas shortage and became a hands-on restoration enthusiast for life.

    The SEMA Data Co-op (SDC) enhanced its product data management tools to make it easier and faster for auto accessory suppliers to process their files. The new tools, which were introduced last month, will reduce the time it takes to load and validate large files from days to hours.

    The photo cove in the SEMA Garage-Industry Innovations Center opened for business last month, as celebrity builders Pete Chapouris and Jimmy Shine of So-Cal Speed Shop utilized the studio to photograph a celebrated project car they are building for rock guitarist Billy Gibbons.

The former publisher of Hot Rod Magazine will work from SEMA's headquarters in Diamond Bar, CA, where he will oversee strategic marketing initiatives for programs such as the SEMA Garage, SEMA Data Co-op, and the world-famous SEMA Show.

    A new report focused on the accessorization of utility task vehicles (UTVs, also known as side-by-sides) reveals that approximately 670,000 UTV models were sold in the United States in 2010-2012. Released by the Specialty Equipment Market Association (SEMA), the 62-page report provides auto accessory businesses with an understanding of the needs and purchase habits of UTV owners and aids in their marketing, sales and product development efforts.

    The SEMA Data Co-op is now helping more than 600 automotive specialty equipment Suppliers and re-sellers around the world standardize and manage their parts data to improve efficiency and increase sales, a 300 percent increase from August last year. The Specialty Equipment Manufacturers Association (SEMA) is the trade organization representing the $31 billion automotive aftermarket industry.
