President Obama has created a new Interagency Trade Enforcement Center (ITEC) to enhance the administration's capabilities to aggressively challenge unfair foreign trade practices. The new center will serve as the coordinating body for officials across nearly a dozen agencies and departments. These include the U.S. Trade Representatives Office, Commerce, Agriculture, Homeland Security, Justice, State, and Treasury, as well as the intelligence community, marshaling the forces of trade litigators, language-proficient researchers, subject matter and economic analysts, and foreign-based personnel located within these disparate offices to create a common front in pressing other nations to comply with global trade rules and to maintain open markets on a nondiscriminatory basis.
