Spy Shots: Not Your Papa's Sedan—Ford Taps SHO Legacy for New 400hp Taurus

2012 Ford Taurus SHO

Don't let the “Limited” badge fool you, says Brenda Priddy. One look at the dual chrome exhaust tips (awkwardly poking out from the donor rear fascia) and unique SHO wheels, leaves no doubt that this is the high-performance Ford Taurus SHO.

Designers wanted to give the SHO a distinctive look, separating it from other Taurus offerings, and it looks like they'll start with a “freshening” for the 2012 model year. Priddy's sources also expect the SHO's 365hp 3.5L EcoBoost engine to be tweaked a bit, even possibly to the neighborhood of 400hp.

Priddy's pics clearly highlight a new grille but not the expected updated rear fascia. Interior updates should be minor. A complete makeover isn't likely until the 2015 model, although Ford has already been dropping hints, Priddy adds.
