AMSOIL will feature the following new products at the 2009 SEMA Show.

AMSOIL Synthetic Low-Viscosity Fuel Efficient Automatic Transmission Fluid

Formulated with the highest-quality components to exceed even the most stringent industry standards, AMSOIL introduced ATL in June. Today’s transmissions are smaller and smoother-shifting, with longer fluid life and heavier load capabilities than traditional transmission fluids are able to meet. Extended gear life, reduced leaks, rust control and anti-shudder additives are just some of the benefits of this fully fortified new product.

AMSOIL Synthetic 5W-40 Premium API CJ-4 Diesel Oil

Diesel owners of 2007 and newer engines now have the option of increased fuel economy and extended drain intervals, as well as overall better performance with AMSOIL 5W-40 Premium Synthetic Diesel Oil. Introduced in April of 2009, AMSOIL Synthetic 5W-40 Diesel Oil has the wherewithal to endure the demands of modern diesel engines. It provides extraordinary lubrication for diesel engines found in fleet, commercial and personal vehicles while improving fuel economy.

AMSOIL Synthetic Premium API CJ-4 15W-40 Diesel Oil

Also introduced in the spring of 2009, AMSOIL 15W40 Premium Synthetic Diesel Oil brings another option for the 2007 and newer diesel engines. With its ability to withstand the stress of heat, soot and acids, this oil delivers unparalleled protection for today’s diesel market. Its low-sulfated ash formulation provides excellent performance in low-emission diesel engines, while controlling soot thickening and wear. Shear stability, reduced oil consumption and lower volatility help reduce emissions.

AMSOIL Diesel Recovery Emergency Fuel Treatment

Introduced in January, AMSOIL Diesel Recovery is a product every diesel owner should have on hand. This fuel additive is cheap insurance and provides peace of mind in the event of gelled diesel fuel and/or frozen fuel filters while getting diesel owners back on the road quickly. Diesel Recovery quickly dissolves the wax crystals that form when diesel fuel passes its cloud point. It liquefies gelled fuel and thaws frozen fuel filters, making it a must for the glove box of any diesel owner living or travelling in cold climates. Now available in larger container sizes.

AMSOIL Synthetic Polymeric Heavy Duty Off-Road Grease

Announced in October and designed to accommodate the tough demands of off-road applications, AMSOIL Synthetic Polymeric Off-Road Grease provides performance benefits specific to this market. Combining an over-based calcium-sulfonate complex thickener and polymeric technology, it provides maximum wear protection to meet Caterpillar's requirements for pin and bushing applications. The tough new grease resists pound-out and extends service intervals with superior protection resulting in reduced lubricant, labor and equipment replacement costs.

AMSOIL Injen Intake for 2007 ½ to 2009 Chevy Silverado 2500/3500 Duramax Diesel V8, 6.6L

Last year's AMSOIL/Injen submission to the SEMA New Product Showcase earned a Global Media Award, and this year AMSOIL is bringing back a new model for Best New Off-Road/4-Wheel Drive Product. 2007 ½-2009 Chevy Silverado owners with a 2500 or 3500 Duramax Diesel V8 6.6L now have the option of installing a more direct route for air intake systems. With the ability to improve gas mileage and increase performance, AMSOIL/Injen Intake systems have revolutionary Variable Induction Technology. The VI Technology process is a multi-power air induction system that fills the plenum with cool air, giving added power on demand. AMSOIL Ea filter technology offers long filter life while providing superior protection and maximum efficiency.

     Mustang KCA306
      Roll Centre Kit

Whiteline Automotive (Booth #20457) will introduce two new products at the 2009 SEMA Show.

    Mustang KCA306

    Part #: KCA306
    Description: Roll Centre Kit
    Application: Ford Mustang 2005 - 2010.
    Retail Price: $297.23

    Mustang KCA306 Product Information
Whiteline diagnosed 2005 on Mustang with a basic Macpherson strut front suspension that has poor roll centre control and excessive bump steer. With Mustang at standard ride height, front roll centre height is just over 2” above ground. With a mild lowering of only ¾” front roll centre migrates below ground level! WHAT DOES THIS MEAN? Basically it means you need a Whiteline Roll Centre Kit or “ROCK”! Mustang’s front roll geometry actually encourages roll the lower you go.

A Whiteline “ROCK” is designed to raise the front roll centre geometry by using specially engineered ball-joints and tie rod ends while still maintaining original steering geometry.

Tests on Mustang showed that raising the front roll centre resulted in a substantial increase to front roll resistance and a significant reduction in suspension compression of the outside front wheel during cornering – equals less roll. The kit also covers bump steer correction with specially engineered tie rod ends. Bump steer is the toe-in or toe-out of the front wheels as the suspension goes from normal ride height through full bump (suspension system moves up) to full droop (suspension system moves down).

Wilwood Engineering (booth #25133) will introduce its front and rear D8-4 calipers, D52 calipers and new line of ProSpindles at the 2009 SEMA Show.

    D8-4 Caliper

    D8-4 Calipers

Wilwood’s front and rear D8-4 calipers are a direct bolt-on replacement for OE calipers on ’65-’82 Corvettes. Forged billet aluminum bodies, stainless steel pistons and competition style high-temperature seals put an end to the rust, bore pitting and seal failures that plague the original caliper design. D8-4 calipers mount in the original location over stock rotors, use the same style OE D8 brake pads and OE master cylinder. Save weight and gain reliability with the D8-4.

Note: Fits C2 and C3 factory steel wheels and C3 factory optional aluminum wheels. Does not fit Kellsey Hayes or replica knock-off wheels.

    D52 Caliper

    D52 Calipers

Wilwood’s new D52 calipers are a direct bolt-on replacement for all ’68 and later GM musclecars, passenger vehicles and light-duty trucks originally equipped with the big, single piston D52 pad calipers. The calipers are built to mount in the stock location, with stock dimension rotors, using regular OE type or aftermarket compound replacement pads and fitment anywhere the OE calipers were used.

The new D52 calipers provide a lightweight, high-strength, extreme-duty alternative for customized street machines and all competition vehicles that still require OE mounting. The forged billet aluminum bodies provide a substantial weight savings, without rust or corrosion, over the original cast iron calipers.

Stainless steel pistons with high temperature bore seals minimize heat transfer and provide maximum durability in the most extreme circumstances. A smaller bore rear model is available to help maintain proper front to rear bias on vehicles that have been converted to four wheel discs. Optional color finishes are available to compliment wheel, tire, and rotor upgrades on all types of customized machines.

    ProSpindles

    ProSpindles

Wilwood’s ProSpindles are designed for custom suspensions configured around Pinto/Mustang ll geometry. The standard height version is used for applications where you wish to maintain the stock ride height. The 2-inch drop version is utilized when you want to effectively lower the ride height without disturbing the suspension geometry. The one-piece forged steel body is lightweight, yet nearly three times stronger than OE or aftermarket two-piece cast and steel replacement spindles.

Bolt-on steering arms are strong and allow the same spindle to be used on either side of a vehicle. The steering arms may also be inverted to help make corrections for bump steer based on the steering linkage location. Additionally, the spindle is one half-inch taller than OE spindles which effectively raises the front roll center geometry for improved handling characteristics. Integral mounting bosses on the spindle body provide the strongest possible attachment point for caliper brackets. ProSpindles use common Pinto and Mustang ll tie rod ends, ball joints, wheel bearings and seals.

  • GMC Sierra HD

No major changes for GMC's 2011 Sierra Heavy Duty, says Brenda Priddy, whose spy photo network grabbed these shots of a barely clad update. Priddy notes the new three-bar perforated grille shares styling with the 2010 GMC Terrain crossover. The eight-spoke wheels are also a new touch, but the rest of the bodywork and sheetmetal should continue looking like the current truck.

The Sierra and its corporate twin, the Chevrolet Silverado HD, will also feature an all-new chassis and a next-generation 6.6L "LML" Duramax V8 clean diesel engine. The 2011 Sierra HD pickup is expected to start production in the second quarter of 2010.

Law & Order

  • The U.S. Forest Service (USFS) has announced its decision to permanently close the popular 39-mile Upper Tellico River OHV trail system in North Carolina due to erosion concerns. The decision follows a heated debate between the USFS, off-highway vehicle (OHV) groups and environmentalists following the February release of the USFS environmental study on the area. The USFS contends that the OHV trail systems contributes unacceptable levels of sediment to the Tellico River and its tributaries, causing water-quality concerns. SEMA and a number of OHV organizations and enthusiasts had urged the USFS to take a more measured response instead of simply closing the off-road recreation area.

Congressman John Salazar (D-CO) has introduced the “San Juan Mountains Wilderness Act” in Congress. The bill would designate as wilderness 61,682 acres of public land in southwestern Colorado, in the Grand Mesa, Uncompahgre, Gunnison and San Juan National Forests and the San Juan Bureau of Land Management Resource Area. Rep. Salazar claims the legislation has the support of local towns, such as Ouray and Telluride, and the County Commissions of San Miguel, Ouray and San Juan Counties. SEMA is in the process of reviewing the legislation to determine its potential impact on the local OHV community. A wilderness designation prohibits the use of motorized or mechanized vehicles. For more information, contact Ethan Landesman at ethanl@sema.org.
  • The Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC) announced its intention to regulate “recreational off-highway vehicles” (ROVs), rejecting as inadequate a voluntary industry standard.

ROVs can attain speeds greater than 30 miles per hour and are configured differently than all-terrain vehicles (ATVs). ROVs have four or more low-pressure tires and generally accommodate a side-by-side driver/passenger in a compartment equipped with roll bars. The vehicles are not regulated by the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration since they are intended for off-road, recreational use only. The CPSC cited concerns that the vehicles may exhibit inadequate lateral stability, undesirable steering characteristics and inadequate occupant crash protection during a rollover. The agency has requested public comments on ways to reduce the risks it associates with ROVs. For more information, contact Stuart Gosswein.

  • Gov. Arnold Schwarzenegger signed into law legislation which bans the manufacture, sale and use of lead wheel weights in California effective January 1, 2010. The automakers have agreed to stop using the weights as original equipment, and the three major manufacturers of wheel weights in the United States will stop distributing lead weights in California by the end of 2009.

The U.S. Environmental Protection Agency launched a voluntary nationwide initiative in 2008 and began a rulemaking process this summer which may eventually translate into a mandatory federal ban. The weights have been banned in the European Union since 2005.

At issue is concern that the weights fall off tires and become environmental hazards or are contaminants in the metal recycling process. In the environment, the weights may be ground into fine dust particles and turn into lead oxides, hydroxides or bicarbonates. Lead particles and chemical combinations also pose the risk of contaminating surface and ground water supplies.

Automakers, tire makers and the aftermarket are turning to three main substitute materials: steel, zinc or composites. For more information, contact Stuart Gosswein.

    NEWS NUGGETS

FUNNY CAR SHOWDOWN SET FOR ‘SIN CITY’:
With a total of only 48 points separating first-place driver Robert Hight from third-place driver Tony Pedregon, the battle in Funny Car for the NHRA Full Throttle Drag Racing world championship couldn’t be tighter heading into this weekend’s ninth annual NHRA Las Vegas Nationals, the fifth of six races in the 2009 NHRA Full Throttle Countdown to 1 playoffs. Hight, and John Force Racing teammate, Ashley Force Hood, have held the top two spots since the Dallas race in September, but two-time world champion Pedregon sits a little more than two round wins out of the top spot. Considering that since the inception of the Countdown to the Championship playoffs in 2007, every winner in the Funny Car class at the October race in Las Vegas has gone on to win the world championship, the stakes couldn’t be higher for any driver within the top-10 point standings.

Just two years previous, a first-round loss at The Strip at Las Vegas Motor Speedway all but ended Hight’s chances of winning a world championship, while Pedregon’s win that year all but secured his second. But, if Pedregon wants to make it a third, he’s going to have to go around arguably the strongest pair of Ford Mustangs in the class.

“It’s the best spot that we could be in,” said Force Hood. “At the beginning of the year, when we have our big team meetings and we get ready to head off to the Winternationals, that’s always our goal. Obviously Robert and I aren’t not the only ones, but we are one and two. So (the others) are going to have to catch up and go around us.”

The ninth annual NHRA Las Vegas Nationals, the fifth of six races in the NHRA Full Throttle Drag Racing Countdown to 1 playoffs, will take place this weekend, October 29–November 1, at The Strip at Las Vegas Motor Speedway.

    NHRA Fan Fest

NHRA VEGAS STYLE FAN FEST OCTOBER 29 ON FREMONT STREET: NHRA Vegas Style Fan Fest, the official kickoff to the 2009 NHRA Las Vegas Nationals, will take place Thursday, October 29, from 6:00 p.m.–8:00 p.m. on Fremont Street in Las Vegas. NHRA Full Throttle Drag Racing Series stars Antron Brown, Larry Dixon, Tony Pedregon, Tim Wilkerson, Bob Tasca, Jeff Arend, Jeg Coughlin, Allen Johnson, Michael Phillips, Bob Bode, David Hope and others will participate in the autograph session. The first 500 fans in the autograph line will receive a free special-edition poster featuring select drivers in the NHRA’s Countdown to 1 playoffs. The Fan Fest will take place on the 3rd Street section of Fremont Street near the Four Queens Hotel & Casino, FitzGerald Casino & Hotel and the Fremont Hotel & Casino. For more information, visit www.NHRA.com.

NHRA ANNOUNCES SAFETY INITIATIVES FOR 2010: NHRA has announced its technical initiatives for 2010, which are designed to improve safety, as well as reduce unwanted downtime at events due to leakage on the track. Highlighting the changes in 2010 will be the implementation of a new Eject Helmet Removal System in all four professional categories, as well as Top Alcohol Dragster and Top Alcohol Funny Car in the NHRA Lucas Oil Drag Racing Series. The system uses an inflatable bladder located in the top of the helmet to make removal of the helmet by safety personnel after an incident easier and safer. In addition, all participants in the Top Fuel and Funny Car classes will be required to use an Electrimotion Safety Shut-Off Receiver.

The device, when used in conjunction with the Electrimotion Shut-Off Transmitter and Electrimotion Safety Shut-Off Box, will automatically shut-off fuel and ignition as well as deploy the parachutes once the driver has passed the finish line if the driver has not done so already. The system will activate when the car passes by a wall-mounted transmitter. Other safety measures in NHRA’s top two classes include fireproof tubing on brake lines and, in Top Fuel, a required cable wrapped around the rear wing main element that will deploy the parachutes automatically in the event the rear wing becomes separated from its supports. The same mechanism will be required in the Top Alcohol Dragster class as well.

Beginning March 11, 2010, in Pro Stock, cars will be required to have formed and foamed seats as well an NHRA-accepted lateral head support system, along with an rpm limiter set at 4,000 rpms that will be activated after eight seconds into a run to slow the car in the event the driver is unable to do so. Finally, drivers will be required to wear SFI 3/2A/15 fire suits. Affecting all classes in 2010, where applicable, and to reduce the chance of fuel leaks, all NHRA-accepted fuel lines will be required to use ends that are specifically designed for the type of fuel line being used to reduce fuel leaks. For more safety initiatives for 2010, visit www.NHRA.com.

New Location for LTAA Industry Reception

LTAA will present its annual industry awards on Wednesday, November 4, 2009, during the LTAA reception at the Renaissance Hotel. This will be the first time that LTAA presents awards at the SEMA Show, and also the first time that their reception will be at the Renaissance.

"We’re really looking forward to this year’s reception," said LTAA Chair Elect George Lathouris. "It’s exciting to present our awards as part of the SEMA Show, and it’s exciting to move to a new venue. The Renaissance is literally right out the door from South Hall, so we’re accepting no excuses for no-shows. The new products section is also in South Hall, which will make it convenient for our awards committee to pick our Best New Products winners. This year’s Show is nothing but positive for us."

The LTAA Industry Reception is in Ballrooms 1 and 2 of the Renaissance, Wednesday, November 4, from 5:00 p.m.–7:00 pm.

    Thanks to Our Sponsors

LTAA wishes to thank the following member companies for their generous sponsorship of the upcoming LTAA Industry Reception on Wednesday, November 4, from 5:00 p.m.–7:00 pm at the Las Vegas Renaissance Hotel.

"Words cannot express our appreciation to all these companies who were able to find some budget in this tough economy, to help keep the tradition of our LTAA Reception going," said LTAA Chairman Kelly Kneifl. "Now I’m looking forward to thanking each of them at the event."
