The Hot Rodders of Tomorrow Engine Challenge will feature a teardown/rebuild competition at the 2009 SEMA Show.

Watch the action unfold as students race against the clock to disassemble and rebuild a Chevy 350 engine using only hand tools during the Hot Rodders of Tomorrow Engine Challenge National Championship, Thursday, November 5, during the 2009 SEMA Show.

The competition begins with two qualifying rounds, the first beginning Wednesday, November 4, at 1:00 p.m., when Team Edelbrock (Van Buren Tech Center, Lauren, Michigan) takes on Team MSD (Elkhart Area Career Center, Elkhart, Indiana).

The second round starts at 3:00 p.m., when Team Hedman Hedders (Loara High School, Anaheim, California) goes against Team Fel-Pro (Joliet Central High School, Joliet, Illinois).

The championship, dubbed “The Showdown at SEMA,” will feature the winners from Wednesday’s qualifying rounds facing off in the inaugural Hot Rodders of Tomorrow Engine Challenge National Championship.

Both the qualifying rounds and the final showdown take place in Hot Rod Alley, booth 25042, inside the SEMA Show.

The Hot Rodders of Tomorrow Engine Challenge pits teams of students from around the country against each other to see who can take apart and reassemble a high-performance Chevy 350 engine in the shortest time using only hand tools. In addition to the timed element of the competition, the young mechanics are also judged for proper dismantling and reassembly. Time penalties are given for a team’s mistakes, such as dropped components, broken parts and poor sportsmanship.
