Jamaica Auto Parts and Accessories

About this product:

Although in Jamaica, one drives on the left hand side of the road, the United States remains an important source of
automobile parts and accessories. Industry experts estimate that between 10 and 15 percent of Jamaican automobile parts
and accessories market is sourced from the U.S. Other important source countries for parts and accessories are
Taiwan, Panama, Canada and China. Although China seems to be a good source for low priced products, some importers
are cautious about importing from that country because of distance and quality concerns. In general because of language
and quality considerations, the United States is the favored source country for a wide variety of accessories such as alarm systems, car exterior cleaners, upholstery & carpet cleaners, car covers, and rims.

India Automotive Aftermarket Components

About this product:

India’s automotive components industry manufactures almost the entire range of parts required by the domestic industry for various types of vehicles. The total domestic production of automotive components in FY 2004 was estimated at $7 billion. Of this, the organized sector accounted for 77% of the total value of production with the rest coming from the unorganized sector. There is a huge unorganized sector that typically caters to the demands from the replacement market. The unorganized sector, in turn, is a low-cost sector with fiscal liabilities (in terms of excise duties) not being accounted for. As a result, the unorganized sector is able to supply the replacement market with significantly lower-priced parts. The after-market is highly competitive for components due to price sensitivity and tolerance for lower quality products. A major channel of marketing and distribution for this sector is the typical roadside mechanic.

Hong Kong Automotive Parts and Components

About this product:

The Hong Kong automotive parts and components market is small, US$ 410 million, which is about 2% of the Mainland China market. Hong Kong has no automotive manufacturing and thus all vehicles are imported. Automotive parts and components
demand is limited to aftermarket supply for maintenance and repair. There are limited export opportunities for U.S. exporters because European and Japanese suppliers dominate the vehicles and the corresponding parts and components market. That being said, there are export opportunities for auto-related technology to Hong Kong as Hong Kong’s automotive parts manufacturers, who focus on high value-added products for local and export markets, are hungry for new technology and manufacturing processes. In addition, there are also opportunities for U.S. exporters to sell high technology auto accessories and gadgets, which are in demand by Hong Kong consumers.

France Automotive Parts and Equipment Market

About this product:

France is the fourth largest automotive market in Europe after Germany, the UK and Italy. While we currently have no official figures for 2004, the light vehicle automotive parts market appears to have expanded due to an increase in the registration of passenger and commercial vehicles: 2,422,159 in 2004, versus 2,009,246 in 2003. This was a welcome change over the previous year as the strong euro/weak dollar exchange rate let to decreased parts sales--down to $26.5 billion--due in part to a decline in car production in 2003.

Czech Republic Automotive Industry Sector Analysis

About this product:

A region known for Skoda cars, Zetor tractors, and Tatra trucks, The Czech Republic has become the major car manufacturer in the Central/Eastern European region. With new auto investments in neighboring Slovakia, Hungary and Poland, this region is fast becoming the Detroit of Europe. U.S. businesses are already capitalizing on this progress - a significant number of U.S. companies have established branches here to supply the region and even the rest of Europe. Although EU accession gives European competitors a slight tariff advantage, the decline in the U.S. dollar makes U.S. supplies very price competitive today. U.S. companies that might not have been price competitive two years ago should take another look at this market sector, which Commercial Service Prague has made one of its top priorities this year.
