The market size for automotive parts in Chile is approximately $400 million. U.S. market share is approximately 14.5%. There are 2.5 million vehicles operating in the country. There is no local production of auto parts; all parts and accessories are imported.
Total new vehicle demand in Chile is expected to grow 20% in 2004. Projections for new car sales total 140,000 units, up sharply from recent years, but well below the 1997 peak of 180,000 units sold.
