    Auto spy photographer Brenda Priddy says this is first proof of Ford’s all-new V8, code-named “Coyote." The 5.0L, four-valve, naturally aspirated V8 will be offered in the 2011 Mustang and F-150. Priddy estimates the mill will make 400 hp and 400 lb.-ft. torque, with fuel economy close to that of today’s 5.4L engine.

    The United States Senate passed legislation to add more than 2 million acres to the National Wilderness Preservation System. The “wilderness” designation is consequential since no mechanized activity is permitted on such lands. The issue is of keen interest to off-roaders and the SEMA-member companies that market products to those groups.

    The European Parliament recently voted to allow dual measurements to be included on product labeling. The amendment indefinitely extends the use of supplementary units of measurement, such as pounds and inches. The extension eliminates a potential barrier to trade by forgoing the units of measurement directive—which mandates metric-only labeling—that was scheduled to take affect in 2010.

    Last week’s SEMA webinar highlighted “The Specialty-Equipment Automotive Company of the Future: Guideposts for Strategic Planning” (Phase I) study prepared by the Center for Automotive Research (CAR). SEMA and CAR developed the study to provide members with guideposts or insights for business planning, whether it is strategic, tactical or operational.
