    The U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) has issued a rule to regulate paint stripping operations that use methylene chloride and surface coating, and auto body refinishing operations that use paints containing hazardous metal compounds. The rule targets hazardous air pollutants (HAP) which the agency believes may cause cancer or other health disorders. The rule applies to most coating activities that emit HAP but, notably, the EPA followed SEMA’s recommendation and exempted low-volume operations such as when hobbyists restore or customize one or two cars.

    OVER AND OUT
    After 33 years, the International Race of Champions went out of business after a title sponsor did not materialize. By the end of the year, the cars had been sold and the final chapter in the glorious history of the series that pitted the world’s best drivers in identically prepared cars, was over. Tony Stewart, who won the 2006 title, will go down in history as the final IROC champion.

    ACI (Agri-Cover Inc.) promoted Joy Hanson to marketing manager. Hanson will work to strengthen all market segments by managing and coordinating all media relations, product literature and ACI’s website. Hanson joined ACI in 2005 with the primary role of redesigning the company’s website. She later expanded her position with other graphic design responsibilities.
