Not so coincidentally, many of today’s MPMC-member companies were also original SEMA members when the association was formed in 1963 as the Speed Equipment Manufacturers Association.

    The year 1990 seems like a lifetime ago. That year brought our industry the Ford Explorer and the Acura NSX. Chevrolet started using the song “Like a Rock” in its advertising campaigns.

He got his start in his father’s shop, Downard’s Automotive Specialties. After graduating from Kent State University, he went to work with Summit Racing in the company’s tech department.

    As a kid, incoming Manufacturers’ Rep Council (MRC) Chairman Wade Cobb owned every Matchbox and HotWheels car known to man. When he grew older, he worked part-time at a speed shop in Pauline, Kansas, moving from the back shop to the front, selling carburetors, headers and superchargers.

    The Young Executives Network (YEN) will be 20 years old in 2010. While the creation of the group was discussed and planned in the late-’80s, the Young Executives Council (as it was known originally) didn’t become recognized as a member group until 1990.
