The Specialty Equipment Market Association (SEMA), the organization representing the $31 billion specialty automotive industry, opened phase two of its automotive innovation facility in Southern California today, in conjunction with Collector Car Appreciation Day.

SEMA Hot Rod Council to Present Education Day at 2014 Detroit Autorama

The annual SEMA Hot Rod Industry Alliance (HRIA) Education Day will be held, for the first time, in conjunction with the Detroit Autorama – the 60-year old custom cars show taking place at Cobo Hall in Detroit, Michigan, in March. The program will consist of 24 sessions, each led by a hot rod parts manufacturer educating attendees about the products’ features, benefits and installation guidelines.

William Blake is quoted as saying, “Execution is the chariot of genius.” Today we often quote Nike’s slogan: “Just Do It.” One of my favorite quotes goes like this, “When all was said and done, more was said than done.” These three quotes/slogans share a common thread—the idea that thoughts should lead to actions. Of course, activity is often confused with productivity. Productivity is measured; it’s usually planned in advance with intervals that measure progress. Because my primary business is marketing and my primary involvement with SEMA is the Wheel & Tire Council (WTC), this article will discuss a few simple techniques about marketing wheels and performance tires. I’ve recently witnessed two retailers re-focus and re-target their businesses. One is a significant countrywide retailer whose primary business focus is performance tires and wheels; the other is a tire retailer that rarely sells wheels. Here’s what they did.

SEMA Again Secures U.S. Senate Resolution Designating July 12th As “Collector Car Appreciation Day”

The U.S. Senate passed Senate Resolution 176 (S. Res. 176) designating July 12, 2013 as "Collector Car Appreciation Day." The Resolution was requested by the Specialty Equipment Market Association (SEMA) and its Automotive Restoration Market Organization (ARMO) and Hot Rod Industry Alliance (HRIA) Councils. The date marks the fourth commemoration in what has become an annual event to celebrate and raise awareness of the vital role automotive restoration and collection plays in American society.

New Research Shows $31 Billion in Automotive Parts, Accessories Sales

Sales of automotive specialty equipment products continue to climb, with sales in 2012 reaching $31 billion according to the 2013 SEMA Annual Market Report. The figure represents a four percent increase over the previous year, and marks the third consecutive year of growth.
