SEMA Secures U.S. Senate Resolution Designating July 11 as “Collector Car Appreciation Day”

The U.S. Senate passed Senate Resolution 493 (S. Res. 493) designating July 11, 2014, as “Collector Car Appreciation Day.” The Resolution was requested by SEMA and its Automotive Restoration Market Organization (ARMO) and Hot Rod Industry Alliance (HRIA) councils. The date marks the fifth commemoration in what has become an annual event to celebrate and raise awareness of the vital role automotive restoration and collection plays in American society.

Chairman of the Board Nate Shelton Challenges You to a Race in Pomona

Each year, generous individuals around the United States step up to sponsor cars for SEMA's Pinewood Drag Races, and SEMA councils challenge each other for the Council Cup. This is all done in support of SEMA Cares charities, such as Childhelp and Victory Junction, which both support children in need. This year's event will take place near the historic Pomona Raceway—the perfect setting for a drag race—at the Sheraton Fairplex Hotel & Convention Center in Pomona, California, July 18, 2014.

Portion of Bonneville Salt Flats Resurfaced

An estimated 2,000 tons of salt were successfully deposited on the mud surface at the end of the access road to the Bonneville Salt Flats. It was graded and then dried to a hard concrete-like racing surface. Although modest in scope, the project demonstrates that it should be possible to deposit dry salt in targeted areas so as to help preserve our national treasure—the site where land-speed records have been set over the past 100 years.

Council and Network Election Results Announced

The election results are in for SEMA’s council and network select committees, with several new individuals to welcome. Each of the newly elected members will serve a two-year term, 2014–2016. These volunteer leaders assist in guiding the direction and key initiatives of each group, while giving voice to their niche segment of the industry.

WD-40 Foose-Inspired Truck Raffled to Raise Money for SEMA Cares

Since 2009, WD-40 Co. and SEMA Cares have teamed up to raise more than $800,000 through six project builds, the most recent being a Ford F-150 that was raffled off to Virginia Jones of Walking Rock, Georgia. The enhanced ’13 Ford F-150 Lariat, a collaboration between SEMA manufacturing members and students from the Alex Xydias Center for Automotive Arts (AXC), was designed by industry icon Chip Foose and is the first vehicle to be modified in the SEMA Garage – Industry Innovations Center in Diamond Bar, California.

SCORE Brings World's Top Desert Racers to 2014 SEMA Show

SCORE International is bringing the thrill and excitement of its legendary flagship event, the Baja 1000, to the 2014 SEMA Show. Off-road activities will take place in Las Vegas throughout the week of the SEMA Show, November 4–7, 2014, culminating with the 2014 SCORE Baja 1000 live race qualifying event.
