    Industry veteran Ira Gabriel has joined the SEMA executive team as VP of Marketing. The former publisher of Hot Rod Magazine will work from SEMA's headquarters in Diamond Bar, CA, where he will oversee strategic marketing initiatives for programs such as the SEMA Garage, SEMA Data Co-op, and the world-famous SEMA Show.

    A new report focused on the accessorization of utility task vehicles (UTVs, also known as side-by-sides) reveals that approximately 670,000 UTV models were sold in the United States in 2010-2012. Released by the Specialty Equipment Market Association (SEMA), the 62-page report provides auto accessory businesses with an understanding of the needs and purchase habits of UTV owners and aids in their marketing, sales and product development efforts.

    The SEMA Data Co-op is now helping more than 600 automotive specialty equipment Suppliers and re-sellers around the world standardize and manage their parts data to improve efficiency and increase sales, a 300 percent increase from August last year. The Specialty Equipment Manufacturers Association (SEMA) is the trade organization representing the $31 billion automotive aftermarket industry.

    Students at Ohio Technical College (OTC) may be able to win a scholarship for a one-year tuition, valued at up to $29,400. The scholarship is part of the Specialty Equipment Market Association (SEMA) Memorial Scholarship Fund (SMSF), which encourages and supports those pursuing careers in the automotive aftermarket.

The savings, available to any SEMA member receiver in the SDC, totals $1,200 per year and is the newest incentive for members to join the SDC.

    The annual SEMA Hot Rod Industry Alliance (HRIA) Education Day will be held, for the first time, in conjunction with the Detroit Autorama – the 60-year old custom cars show taking place at Cobo Hall in Detroit, Michigan, in March.     The U.S. Senate passed Senate Resolution 176 (S. Res. 176) designating July 12, 2013 as "Collector Car Appreciation Day." The Resolution was requested by the Specialty Equipment Market Association (SEMA) and its Automotive Restoration Market Organization (ARMO) and Hot Rod Industry Alliance (HRIA) Councils. The date marks the fourth commemoration in what has become an annual event to celebrate and raise awareness of the vital role automotive restoration and collection plays in American society.

    Sales of automotive specialty equipment products continue to climb, with sales in 2012 reaching $31 billion according to the 2013 SEMA Annual Market Report. The figure represents a four percent increase over the previous year, and marks the third consecutive year of growth.

    Joined by Congressional leaders and industry experts, members of the SEMA Action Network (SAN) participated in the “Fuel for Thought” Rally on Capitol Hill. The event raised awareness of the corrosive effects of ethanol-blended gasoline on automobile engines and the dangers of consumer misfueling. Hosted by the American Motorcyclist Association (AMA) in partnership with the SAN, the event drew car enthusiasts and motorcycle riders from across the nation.

    SEMA has hired industry veteran Mike Spagnola to fill the newly created position of VP, OEM & Product Development Programs, effective today. Spagnola brings with him 40 years of specialty auto parts experience, including more than 20 years of product development and project vehicle work. With a focus on heightening SEMA services to help members develop products quickly and efficiently, Spagnola will collaborate with the SEMA OEM and Vehicle Technology departments while serving as a resource and a liaison for members and automakers.
